Peachtober 2023

This year, I participated in Peachtober; it’s kind of like Inktober, except the prompts are created by Sha’an D’Anthes, AKA Furry Little Peach. It was a really fun creative play exercise that helped me bust heaps of fabric scraps and I loved setting myself a creative goal and sticking to it, posting almost every day of the month!

Here’s what I wrote in my Peachtober Plan/Artist Statement:

"Yipeee! I’m participating in @furrylittlepeach @peachtober for the first time so I wanted to share a little bit about my approach! I’ve written an artist statement kind of thing, so you know my WHY, and I hope you’ll follow along each day to see what I come up with.

My Peachtober Plan:

🌈Each “artwork” will be 30cm x 30cm and made from 100% linen fabric pieces.

✂️I’m ONLY using materials (fabric, thread, glue, scissors etc) that I already own in an effort to make a serious dent in my fabric scrap pile.

🖼️Some pieces will be abstract, some will be literal and some will be inspired by art by other makers. I’ll share my inspo pics or references in a carousel with each days post.

🏵️I’m giving myself 6 FREE PASSES for prompts that dont inspire an idea - ‘Slingshot’ I’m looking at you!

🧩I’m participating as a creativity exercise, to use sewing in a different way than how I usually do and practice skills and techniques I don’t use very often.

🙂I’m also participating for creative PLAY, with really low pressure to produce jawdroppig textile art and just to make SOMETHING that has no other purpose than to make my brain happy. AND of course, to experience the Peachtober community and discover new artists and makers who are also participating. Woohoooo!”

If you want to read more about each prompt, you can check out the individual posts on my Instagram.
